The End of the Washington Consensus
NPQ asked Laura Tyson and the others in this section
to respond to the following questions: Has the "Washington consensus"
on free trade and free capital flows that reigned from the end of the
Cold War to the onset of the Asian crisis run its course? If so, is the
world economy now facing global deglobalization or a new period characterized
more by market pluralism than conformity to what Mexico's former president,
Carlos Salinas, calls "North Atlantic neoliberalism"?
